Clouds are a key to climate. Variation in global cloud cover is a high order variable in setting climate. Clouds can cover 55 - 70+ % of the earth's surface. High clouds are different than low clouds. Clouds play a key role in reflecting energy from the sun and in releasing energy to outer space. So in both cases they send energy out, having a net cooling effect.
